The team

The Privacy & AI Compliance team at Kraken is focused on building an industry-leading privacy and AI program that upholds data protection for our clients and staff while enabling Kraken’s mission of financial security and inclusion. With a forward-looking approach to privacy and AI, we aim to foster trust and operational resilience as we support global regulatory compliance. Our team plays a pivotal role in driving Kraken’s privacy strategy and strengthening our AI governance as we prepare for expanding international privacy and AI requirements, including the EU AI Act. Joining this team means being part of a mission-driven group dedicated to transparency, privacy innovation, and seamless compliance - empowering Kraken’s growth as a trusted leader in crypto.

The opportunity

  • Lead and implement Kraken’s global privacy and AI compliance program, focusing on cross-functional risk management, privacy-by-design, control design and implementation, operations uplift, M&A advisory, AI assurance, and technology integrations.

  • Serve as the designated Data Protection Officer for a number of Kraken’s regional entities, act as the main contact point for data protection authorities in those regions, and oversee data protection regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.

  • Oversee the expansion and development of Kraken’s privacy operations, including the uplift of: Data Subject Rights processes; incident response and readiness; third-party risk management; privacy metrics; and internal privacy support request workflows.

  • Collaborate with Product, Legal, Design, Engineering and client facing teams to provide proactive and repeatable privacy guidance for compliance and innovation, including developing scalable privacy and AI impact assessment processes for global as well as regional products and services.

  • Manage and support Kraken’s global team of privacy & AI compliance professionals.

  • Advocate and build a client-focused privacy culture, providing training and resources to foster awareness of privacy and AI compliance across departments.

Skills you should HODL

  • 8+ years in privacy or data protection roles, ideally within tech or financial services, with a focus on GDPR and AI compliance.

  • Demonstrated expertise in global privacy & AI regulations, including the GDPR, UK GDPR, EU AI Act, BIPA, PIPEDA, CCPA. Plus familiarity with other global regulations.

  • Proven track record in developing a fully operational and data-driven global privacy and AI compliance program with automated workflows for clients’ data subject rights requests, seamless privacy-by-design support, and consistent regulatory engagement.

  • Experience deploying a data driven, creative, risk-based approach to privacy regulatory compliance.

  • Demonstrated experience leveraging regulatory technology to design, build and maintain global data privacy program controls and processes.

  • Demonstrated expertise in cross-functional risk management, including privacy impact assessments, AI risk assessments, M&A advisory, incident response management, third-party risk management, and complex data subject rights management.

  • Certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or AIGP are highly desired.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to engage with regulatory bodies and cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with privacy-enhancing technologies, data transfer frameworks, and third-party risk management.

Nice to haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, data science, or related field; advanced degrees or certifications in privacy or AI governance preferred.

  • Experience leading AI compliance programs
